Mohun Bagan Beat TRAU FC to Extend the Unbeaten Run

Imphal, March 1, 2020: Mohun Bagan etch out a positive result against inexperienced TRAU FC to cement their place at the top of the table and inch closer towards their second I League title. Three clinical goals in nine minutes span made sure Mariners keep their title hunt on track.

Kibu Vicuname made three changes in the lineup as Daneil Cyrus has to sit out due to injury and Ashutosh Mehta missed the match due to suspension. Komron Tursunov, Lalramchullova and Dhanachandra Singh made the cut in the first 11. Mohun Bagan started dominating right from the start and Fran Gonzalez missed a sitter when his close range shot missed the target by whisker. But he opened the scoring soon when Komron Tursunov was tripped inside the box and Fran Gonzalez made no mistake to score from the resultant spot-kick. The fluent passing football brought the second goal in 22nd minute when Joseba Beitia and Suhair VP exchanged the ball delightfully and Joseba Beitia curler beat goalkeeper Sayan Roy all ends up. The crowd was still celebrating when Papa Babacar Diawara scored another goal in the very next minute. Komron Tursunov picked the run of Baba Diawara and the later placed the ball in the net with a wonderful placement. Inside 23 minutes Mariners were up by 3 goal. TRAU FC regained their composure and started attacking. They immediately got their result when Joel Sunday tapped in a cross to reduce the margin to 1-3.

Second half was no different as TRAU FC came all guns blazing but missed opportunities made sure they could not score more goals. Komron Tursunov got marching orders in 68 minute and Mohun Bagan had to play little over 20 minutes with 10 men. Youngster Kiyan Nassiri made his debut in I League for the Mariners when he came in as a substitute in place of Suhair VP. TRAU FC could not make any more inroads and match ended as 3-1 in favour of Mohun Bagan
