Mohun Bagan & Chennai City FC Split Points

Kalyani,March 5,2020: After seven wins in a row, Mohun Bagan ‘s winning streak came to an end when they were made to settle for one point in their match against Chennai CIty FC at the Kalyani Municipality Stadium on Thursday. Papa Babacar Diawara gave his team the lead in the first half. His goal was equalised by Katsumi Yusa in the second half.
Bagan coach Vicuna made three changes in the side that won against TRAU 3-1 in the last match. Ashutosh Mehta and Gurjinder Kumar came in place of Lalramchullova and Dhanachandra Singh respectively. Shilton D’Silva made a rare start in midfield in place of a suspended Komron Tursonov.
Chennai City FC enjoyed slightly more possession in the first half. They got quite a few opportunities to score, but they couldn’t get a breakthrough.
Mohun Bagan got their first chance to score in the 32nd minute of the match when they were awarded a free-kick but Joseba Beitia struck the crossbar from a setpiece. In the final minute of the first half, Nongdamba Naorem set up the ball and Papa Diawara made no mistake in calmly slotting the ball past Nauzet Sanatana.
In the 67th minute, former Bagan star Katsumi Yusa scored for Chennai City FC , thus making the scoreline 1-1. But he did not celebrate scoring against his former club.
After the equalizer, Bagan started attacking with more intent. They could have won the match, if only Diawara could have scored his second for the night in the 85th minute. A save from Santana did not let the score change.
After this draw, Mohun Bagan still remain on top of the table with 36 points. Bagan needs just five more points to win the trophy for the fifth time, irrespective of other results. They will meet Aizawl FC at home on March 10, 2020.
