Relentless Mohun Bagan Seek to Stretch Lead at the Top of the Table

Kalyani, 13 Feb 2020 : Mariners kept up their good form and maintained a firm grip on top of the table with a solitary goal victory over second placed Punjab FC in last match. After a good start to the second phase of I-League 2019/20, Kibu Vicuna’s boys will be looking to further stretch their lead when they host Neroca FC in a home match.

Daneil Cyrus is yet to recover fully and will not take part in this match. Speaking to press, the Mohun Bagan coach said, “It wasn’t an easy game against Punjab. Both sides had chances but I believe we were more consistent. Now, we are looking forward to our next challenge against Neroca. We have a tough run of fixtures ahead but we will be approaching it one game at a time. They (Neroca) are a good side. They have strengthened their squad in the winter. I believe they will be full of confidence”.

Mohun Bagan’s opponents NEROCA are languishing in bottom half of the table but they are coming into this match on the back of some good form thanks to a 5-0 win over TRAU and a goalless draw against Indian Arrows. Coach Gift Raikhan said, “Mohun Bagan are great going forward. We lost 0-3 last time but this time, we will be more focused and careful. Football is all about fighting for the result and we will do so tomorrow. Tomorrow is going to be our third match in a week. My players have done well to recover. Mohun Bagan are a great team. They are on course for the title but like any other game, we will do our job – play football,”

The first leg of this encounter ended in a 3-0 win for Mariners with goals from Naorem, Diawara and Turusnov.
