A Bumpy Start of I-League Campaign for Bagan

Kolkata, Dec 08, 2019 : Mohun Bagan squandered a handful of chances in their I League 2nd round match against Churchill Brothers FC at Kalyani and conceded a 2-4 loss.

Visitors up by a goal within 2nd minute of the game when Willis Plaza headed home without any challenge. Churchill Brothers increased their lead in the 29th minute when a perfect corner shot from Dawda Ceesay saw Robert Junior Primus finding the back of the net from a well-directed header. Mariners started pressing hard for the goal and a solo effort of Nongdamba Naorem yielded a penalty for Mohun Bagan when he was tripped inside the box. Francisco Gonzalez reduced the margin to 1-2 when he converted the spotkick. Churchill Brothers scored against the run of the play in the 38thminute through a Willis Plaza scorcher from outside of the box which Debjit fumbled while collecting and allowed it to roll into the goal. Mariners started attacking right from the beginning of second half but poor finishing inside box and lack of imagination at final third let them down. In the 76th minute, Israil Gurung, who came off the bench, floated a well measured curler from the right flank and Abu Bakr leapt over his marker to score the fourth goal for his team and took the match away from home team. Mohun Bagan scored a consolation goal in the 90th Minute when substitute Subha Ghosh found the net from close range. The match ended in 2-4 results and Mariners are now in 8th position
