Mohun Bagan Faces Indian Navy In Last Group Match

Kolkata, August 16, 2019: Mohun Bagan hit another roadblock in their second Calcutta League match, being held to a 1-1 draw by Calcutta Customs. The focus now shifts back towards Durand Cup where Kibu Vicuna’s team has already sealed progress to semi-final. However, Mohun Bagan will look to maintain the winning momentum in India’s oldest tournament.

A worrying news for Mohun Bagan is that Joseba Beitia will be absent due to an ankle injury. Beitia has been one of the Mariners’ best players this season and he will certainly be missed in midfield. On Thursday, Mohun Bagan had a practice session and Kibu Vicuna held a number of meetings with his players. With Durand Cup semi-final berth confirmed, Vicuna is likely to rest a few of his regular starters and provide match time to reserve players. A positive development for the Mariners is the fact that Mohun Bagan will be playing their coming matches in Salt Lake Stadium due to infrastructure work going on in Mohun Bagan Ground. The Mariners have already shown glimpses of some great football against Mohammedan SC in the wider turf of YBK.

Indian Navy are already eliminated from Durand Cup. The army team began their Durand campaign with a 1-1 draw against ATK but found themselves on the wrong side of a 6-2 scoreline in the second match against Mohammedan SC. They are most likely to play for their pride. Britto PM, a member of Mohun Bagan’s Calcutta League winning squad last year will be a player to watch out in Navy ranks.

Mohun Bagan take on Indian Navy in Durand Cup group league match on 17th August, Friday at the Salt Lake Stadium from 6.30 PM.
