Mohun Bagan Look Forward to an Enticing Battle Against Punjab FC

Kolkata, February 8, 2020: Mohun Bagan ended the first half of I-League 2019/20 campaign with a six point lead at top of the table. The Mariners will begin second half of the campaign with a top of the table clash with second placed Punjab FC.

In previous round Kibu Vicuna’s boys raced to a comfortable lead against defending champions Chennai FC but had to endure few nervous moments in the end before the match ended in a 2-3 victory for Mohun Bagan. Trinidadian international Daneil Cyrus will miss the match against Punjab FC. Speaking about this crucial match Vicuna said, “The next match is always the most important one. The team doesn’t matter. They are doing well. They have good players and good forwards. We are confident. We have trained well and I am happy with the way, we are progressing. I don’t know about the result but we will go for three points. Every team is definitely more motivated at this stage. But it is going to get tougher not only for us, for all teams as well.”.

Former I-League champions Punjab FC are one of the most in form teams in this year’s league and have not lost a match since their opening day loss to Churchill Brothers on 1st December, 2019. Ex Mohun Bagan striker Dipanda Dicka is in scintillating form and has been scoring regularly. Dicka struck a hattrick, including a last gasp match winner to garner three points for Punjab FC in their last match against NEROCA FC.

First leg of this fixture ended in a 1-1 draw. Dicka put Punjab ahead in first half and youngster Subha Ghosh equalized for Mariners on 88th minute to salvage a point from away encounter.

Mohun Bagan take on Punjab FC in Kalyani on 9th February at 5 PM.
