Mohun Bagan Plays Stalemate Draw With Customs

Kolkata, August 14, 2019: Mohun Bagan’s CFL Premiere Division match with Calcutta Customs ended in a stalemate. Head coach Kibu Vicuna made few changes in the squad which played against ATK and started with new look stopper pair Fran Gonzalez Munoz and Lalchhawnkima. Mohun Bagan started off with some great passing and build ups. In the 20th minute Customs goalkeeper made an acrobatic save to deny Salva Chamorro from scoring. The deadlock was broken a minute later when a scorching right footer of Fran Gonzalez from outside the box rocketed into the top corner. Customs brought in their new signing Adjah in 38th minute. The move paid off immediately when Adjah ran a distance and unleashed a piledriver which was saved by Sankar Roy. At halftime Mohun Bagan was up by a goal.
Second half started on a different note as Customs adopted a more attacking role. But they could not finish off on couple of occasions. Lalchhawnkima then brought down Adjah outside the box at the hour mark and received the marching orders. Sankar Roy made an excellent save from resultant freekick. Kibu introduced Fran Morante in place of striker Salva Chamorro to hold on to the lead. Romario Jesuraj missed a golden opportunity to score as his poor first touch let him down inside opponent box. Customs player Debayan Saha received a marching orders in the 82nd minute for a rough tackle. But Mariners could not hold on to the lead as Stanly equalized from a melee in the 89th minute. Five additional minutes did not bring any substantial action and match ended in a stalemate.
Dropping five points in the starting first two matches is definitely a set back for head coach Kibu Vicuna and his team.
