Mohun Bagan sign off with a win

Kolkata, September 30, 2019: Mohun Bagan sign off their CFL campaign with a comfortable 3-0 victory over Kalighat MS. Mohun Bagan needed a miracle to defend the CFL title started cautiously in the early part of the game. Spells of shower in the morning and heavy underfoot condition did not help free flowing football but Mohun Bagan created chances early. Salva Chamorro got couple of gilt edged chances but squandered both. Britto PM unleashed a shot which was blocked by Kalighat MS goalkeeper. The score remained goalless after first 45 minutes. Mohun Bagan started proceedings in the second half in a positive note and inclusion of Sk. Faiaz in place of Britto PM brought more fluidity. Mariners got their first goal when from a short corner Chullova released the ball for Nongdamba Naorem who sent a cross and as expected Salva Chamorro scored from a flick header. Salva Chamorro got another opportunity immediately but his shot was well anticipated by Kalighat MS goalkeeper. Kibu Vicuna introduced Julen Colinas in place of Salva Chamorro in 66th Minute. He made his presence known almost immediately when he had a darting run from right wing after picking up a loose ball in the midfield and sent a final pass for Sk. Faiaz who had to tap in the ball in empty net. Mohun Bagan up by 2 goal and did not relent to push for more goals. The final goal of the match came in the 78th minute when Suhair VP flicked the corner of Lalramchullova towards goal mouth and Fran Morante scored with a flying header. Fran Gonzalez scored another goal later which was ruled out for offside.
Head coach Kibu Vicuna in post match press meet admitted that dropping points at crucial juncture cost us the CFL. He is happy with how team is shaping up and confident to put up a good show for rest of the season. Mariners will take a break now for few days and resume their preparatory camp for Bangladesh after Durgapuja.
