Aizawl, November 30, 2019: The opening match of the 13th Hero I-League 2019-2020 season between Mohun Bagan and Aizawl FC was held on the artificial turf of the Rajiv Gandhi stadium in Aizawl today. The match had many exciting moments but it ended in a goalless draw.
The first chance for Bagan came very early in the match in the very 3rd minute when Julian Colinas’s strike off Suhair’s through forward beat Lalremruata in the Aizawl goal,but in vain. Again in the 8th minute, another through ball from Suhair to Nongdamba Naorem but it went straight to Remruata. In the 21st minute, Fran Gonzalez was blocked by Lalrosanga.
After the half-hour mark, Aizawl started coming back into the game but they missed a couple of opportunities and the half ended goalless.
In the second half, Naorem was stretchered out. Both teams tried to create opportunities to score. Sk. Sahil and Salva Chamorro were sent in to strengthen Bagan attack but no success was achieved.
The match ended in 0-0 scoreline.
Mohun Bagan will meet Churchill Brothers FC Goa in their home ground at Kalyani on December 8, 2019.
