Pradip Kumar Banerjee, more popularly known as PK Banerjee was born on 23 June 1936 in Jalpaiguri, Bengal Presidency, British India. He is a former Indian footballer and football coach. He played as a winger.

At the age of 15, playing on the right wing, Banerjee represented Bihar in Santosh Trophy.In 1954 he joined the Aryan club of the Kolkata state in India. Later he represented Eastern Railway . Pradip Kumar Banerjee played in Eastern Railways throughout his career but played for Mohun Bagan on loan during a foreign tour. He did sign for Mohun Bagan at the start of his career but switched to Eastern Railway as he was in need of a full time salaried job.

He represented India in three Asian Games – 1958 in Tokyo, 1962 in Jakarta, where India won the gold medal, and 1966 in Bangkok. At the 1956 Summer Olympics held in Melbourne he was a part of the national team. He was captain of Indian national team at the 1960 Summer Olympics in Rome, where he scored an equalizer against France in a 1-1 draw. Recurring injuries forced him to drop out of the national team and subsequently to his retirement in 1967.

As coach he helped Mohun Bagan to make a big turnaround from 1976. 1976 to 1979 is surely one of the most successful years of Mohun Bagan, when they won a number of trophies under the Coaching of P. K. Banerjee. He was the Coach of Mohun Bagan in 8 seasons, 1976 to 1979, 1984, 1990, 1994 and 1998. He helped Mohun Bagan to win 25 trophies under his coaching. He received the Mohun Bagan Ratna in 2011. He also successfully coached Indian National team for a number of years.

He was one of the first recipients of Arjuna Award, when the awards were instituted in 1961. He was awarded the prestigious Padma Shri Award in 1990 and was named Indian Footballer of the 20th century by FIFA. He received the “Mohun Bagan Ratna” award in 2011.
