Shibdas Bhaduri

MOHUN BAGAN RATNA 2003

Shibdas Bhaduri (1887–1932) was one of the best players of his generation and captained Mohun Bagan in the historic 1911 IFA Shield Final, when they defeated the East Yorkshire Regiment with a score of 2-1 to become the first Indian team to win the competition.

Shibdas Bhaduri joined Mohun Bagan in 1905 and played till 1913. He was captain of Mohun Bagan in 1911 and 1912. Shibdas along with his elder brother Bijoydas Bhaduri played as a forward in the 1911 final and scored the equalizer to level the match 1-1 before Abhilash Ghosh scored the winner.

While visiting the Indian pilgrim town of Puri on 26th February, 1932, Shibdas contracted malaria and died at the age of 44 years. Fariapukur, a street in North Kolkata has been renamed after him by Calcutta Municipal Corporation.

In 2003 he was honored posthumously with the “Mohun Bagan Ratna”.
